Estudiantina Callejoniadas de Guanajuato

We Gringos in the US are most familiar with Mariachi music when we think of Mexico. Here is another kind of music. I have no idea what it is called, but this band is from Guanajuato, Mexico just north of Mexico City. Notice the bass vile in place of the tubby bass guitar (guitarrón) of the Mariachi bands.

Did you know that German immigrants brought the tuba to Mexico when they fled Germany many years ago?

Don't give up because of the three young people talking. The band will play, and you will be delighted at the fire and fury.

She was not called on stage until she was 98 years old. Watch her charm the crowd.
