FINALLY, DAS PACHELBEL I CAN TOLERATE

Long ago my oldest son was taking piano lessons. I was delighted. I am a piano tuner, and it was a great boost to my self-esteem for one of my sons to be playing the piano.

All went well for some time. We finally got to Santa Lucia, and that was real music. What progress. And then the music teacher assigned my son to play Canon in D by Pachelbel. It should be called Canon in Duh? What Gothic magnificent boredom.

I thought my son was stuck on a tough part and playing it over and over to master it. So, I asked him to go ahead and try to play the whole song and come back to the tough part later. "But Dad, that is the whole song."

I told him no composer should take credit for such a mess-- such vain repetition. Then my son told me, "But Dad, Pachelbel was Johann Sabastian Bach's piano teacher. I told him the it was a good thing Pachelbel died so Bach had to learn to play real music.

Thus, I give you some real entertainment based on Pachelbel's Canon in D.
